Name:	Mrs Helen Rowland

Profile:

Helen works as an associate consultant with Focus Education. She has worked in Oldham LA since 1990 and has experience of the full diversity of schools that Oldham offers: English as an additional language, social disadvantage, community, village and faith schools. As headteacher with over 11 years’ experience, Helen has been involved in whole school improvement projects on building learning power, key skills and teaching and assessment for learning. Most recently the school’s main areas of improvement have been working with governors, quality assessment for learning and curriculum innovation. Helen led her school through a highly successful OfSTED inspection in June 2009 in which all aspects were judged to be ‘Outstanding’. The inspection acknowledged: • ‘The very strong, strategic and enthusiastic leadership of the headteacher is a key factor in the school’s success and improvement.’ • ‘This is an outstanding school. Pupils thrive in the very happy, warm and caring setting, so that they achieve exceptionally well, both academically and in their personal development. Pupils feel a keen sense of belonging to their vibrant school and to the local community.’ • ‘The curriculum is outstanding. Pupils’ outstanding academic achievement reflects an impressively innovative and creative curriculum, making meaningful links in learning across the different subjects.’ Helen has worked as a mentor headteacher and coach.
