HIT Programme - Headteacher Inspection Training (Three Day Programme)

This course is designed for headteachers and senior managers in primary schools. The course aims to give delegates a real working knowledge of inspection under the new framework and what excellent school self-evaluation looks like.  The underlying messages and resources will match those of training for inspectors.

This three-day course will address the following issues;

  • Understanding the ‘big picture’ of inspection with a clear focus on evaluating self-evaluation;
  • Knowing how to evaluate the effectiveness of a SEF;
  • Knowing how to judge the overall effectiveness of standards and achievement and highlight areas for improvement – this will include gaining a deep understanding of the way CVA is calculated and used;
  • Tracking children’s progress through the Foundation Stage of Learning;
  • Knowing how to develop hypotheses and evidence trails (this can then be used as a monitoring tool in your own school);
  • Honing your skills of evaluating the quality of teaching, but more importantly learning, in a variety of ways;
  • Using an evidence base to write succinct evaluations.

This course should enable delegates to return to school with increased confidence to use some of the inspection skills and tools to further develop their school and feed into their own SEF.

Moving your School from Satisfactory to Good and Better (Four Day Programme)

This programme will give headteachers and senior leaders the opportunity to engage with practical and innovative practices that have proved to enable schools to demonstrate whole school improvements across a range of key indicators.

This four-day programme will take participants through:

  • A year-long model that supports targeted school improvement activity, and builds the school’s capacity to empower and enable sustained achievement.
  • A co-coaching model that embeds teachers’ knowledge and understanding of the individual school approach to quality learning through a methodology that empowers all staff.
  • An innovative approach, enabling the forensic examination of school issues that impair progress, involving time-effective, and information rich, saturation monitoring.
  • A resource aid that provides a framework for implementing a systemic transformation of child and learning supports to enable all children to have the opportunity to succeed.

This programme will give delegates tools to implement well planned and practical approaches that will impact on school successes and make the school feel good about its progress.

Learning Unpicked (Two Day Programme)

Keeping focused on the core business for school leaders:

• How do we ensure that learning is our core business?
• What does quality learning actually look like?
• What are the factors that lead to quality learning?
• How aware are we of factors about the brain that impact on learning?
• How do we build an effective learning culture?
• How do you successfully diagnose the ‘blockers’ to learning in your school?
• What elements can you quickly and easily work on that could make the difference to learning and progress for children in your school?

This 2-day course will provoke thinking and provide input in relation to all of these questions.  It is designed for school leaders who want to take stock and stand back. The style of the training will be to make you think and reflect. Whilst it will be loaded with ideas and provocations; it is not a ‘this is how to do it’ experience!
