Focus provides a days ‘raising awareness’ inservice for every primary school in the authority, as well as taking part and speaking at numerous large scale conferences ran by the local authority.
This was the result of a large scale conference ran on creativity in 2005. The LA questioned schools as to what they wanted and although the schools felt the LA were doing an excellent job, they wanted additional input from an external source. Many schools mentioned Focus and from this, a partnership was born.
Working together has benefited both the authority and Focus. It has allowed us to work closely with schools within that authority in a non threatening manner, building relationships with individual schools and working closely with members of the education department team.
This contract has just been renewed for another year due to the success of this partnership.
Focus’ partnership with Leeds LA involves our consultants working with Newly Appointed Headteachers. Consultants visit schools, working with headteachers, review the work being done and provide a report on this and then follow this up with further work helping the headteacher to focus on school improvement and self evaluation.
This has proved very successful all round, again allowing us to build invaluable relationships with both schools and the local authority team.
Both LA’s in the above case studies have also taken advantage of purchasing Focus publications in bulk, allowing schools to benefit from large discounts.
