Buy all 3 A Focus on Mathematical Reasoning publications for £10 off - must be the same product typeThis publication provides teachers in Years 3 and 4 with ideas to help develop pupils' mastery skills in maths.
They are intended to be used alongside units of mathematics that are ongoing in the classroom. For example, when pupils are being taught 'Place Value', teachers could choose an appropriate question to help deepen pupils' understanding of that aspect of mathematics. Importantly, these should be used with all pupils not just the most able.
They should also be interwoven into everyday mathematics lessons not just left until the end of each unit.
The examples have been split into different areas so as to help teachers with their planning. Naturally, some examples cover more than one area.
The questions are simply exemplars and teachers are encouraged to develop questions that are similar to the ones outlined in this booklet.
The questions take full account of the need for pupils to 'think harder' and to use their reasoning skills.
