Amanda Spielman has made it clear that schools need to look at the breadth of their curriculum. This has inevitably reminded us of the need to have a clear understanding of what pupils should be able to achieve on a year-by-year basis in the non-core subject areas. This publication helps schools to address this.
It starts by looking at the National Curriculum geography requirements, breaks it down into manageable year groups and then provides you with attractive and meaningful pre-and post assessment tasks that link directly to year-group assessment criteria.
It is important to keep in mind that a great deal of the geography curriculum requires us to improve pupils' knowledge of geography. This is a resource to assess pupils' knowledge and skills in geography without reverting to a tick sheet. The main thing is that the assessment is formative, using activities that can be naturally integrated into the pupils' learning.
