This book has been written to support school leaders in their effective self-evaluation; a vital aspect of school improvement as well as key evidence for the start of any inspection.
The format follows the ofsted evaluation schedule but this can be adapted to meet the need of the school or setting. It breaks each of the Ofsted headings down into smaller aspects and then provides a set of related questions to enable school leaders to consider their evidence and reflect on what their monitoring and evaluation outcomes suggests. Having considered the response to the questions the grade descriptors can be used to form a 'best fit' judgement for that aspect.

Each page includes a sample of text from a self-evaluation supporting a judgement of 'Good' for that particular aspect. This is to provide a starting point for developing a school's own response to the questions.

Finally, there is a pro forma for self-evaluation that follows the format for the book so school leaders can easily record their evidence and judgements, resulting in a completed self-evaluation that is both concise and accurate.
