This mini has been produced to meet three main purposes:
- To enable teachers to look at what a 'typical' child might know, do and understand in Reception.
- To act as a precursor to the Focus publication, 'Key Assessment Criteria' in the new National Curriculum and enable staff from Reception to Year 6 to have common language when talking about and tracking children's progress towards the end of year requirements. To do this the mini presents a series of 'I can' statements in line with the aforementioned document.
- To enable teachers in Reception to identify and record information against the characteristics of effective learning, which have been written in the 'I can' style.
