Created to motivate and inspire curiosity, they can help teachers capture children’s interest in the learning to come.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eKey Stage 1 children should follow the ‘echo’ reading system. The teacher animatedly reads a sentence at a time, and then the children read together in response. The aim is to ensure they employ great intonation and expression in their reading.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe aim for Key Stage 2 children is to create a choral reading opportunity, with the teacher deciding how much of the reading to cover before stopping and adding explanations. One of the main reading outcomes should be fluency.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAt both key stages, teachers should point out and talk about in advance any new vocabulary, especially subject related vocabulary, that children will meet.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUsed regularly as an introduction to each new science unit, the Links will secure children’s pre-knowledge and prepare their brains’ readiness to receive new information.
