Personal Development is one of the key areas of focus during an inspection, with the grade for PD in each school that has a graded inspection now reported on Ofsted’s website. It is the area that really reflects the school’s own values and mission statement, so it is vital that school leaders show inspectors this aspect of the school’s work in the best possible light.
Although there are no deep dives in PSHE in an inspection, it is a key element of the Personal Development evidence base. As such, this course is useful for senior leaders and leaders of PSHE in Primary schools.
The typical questions asked during any inspection will be shared and examples provided of how schools have demonstrated their work in this area in a positive way, which has been reflected in their subsequent inspection report. Potential ‘pitfalls’ are also briefly covered. Delegates will be well prepared to demonstrate their work and ensure inspectors are made fully aware of how their school meets the personal development needs of their pupils.
The session will address the following:
-
What do inspectors look for to reach a judgement for Personal Development?
-
How does PSHE fit into the inspection process?
-
How can schools demonstrate their work in this area most effectively during an inspection?
-
What questions might inspectors ask a PSHE leader and what evidence can schools provide?
