This video training is aimed at primary school leaders and leaders with pedagogical responsibility. It examines the research available to us and considers how schools are using it to improve the quality of education being provided.
The training:
- Considers a practical approach to planning and implementing a curriculum using the ‘link it, learn it, check it, show it, know it’ approach to ensure prior knowledge and retrieval are built into daily learning;
- Helps you understand the relationship between short and long-term memory and what that means in day-to-day teaching;
- Helps you recognise the importance of igniting prior learning and provides examples of how this could be done;
- Helps you know why retrieval tasks are important, providing examples of how they can be used;
- Help you understand how rehearsal within a lesson supports long-term memory;
- Considers how, when building progression maps, we need to recognise the importance of disciplinary knowledge as well as substantive knowledge;
- Focuses on the need to ask more ‘metacognitive’ questions, especially in relation to ‘how will you remember?';
- Considers the importance of continually focusing on the development of pupils’ vocabulary and presentation skills.
