Ofsted take the view that the quality of monitoring and evaluation carried out by schools has
improved over time. A wide variety of leaders in schools have a more in-depth understanding of
strengths and weaknesses. There is still, however, an issue about the quality of the focus for the
monitoring, i.e. is it specific enough to provide all leaders with the information they require to bring
about rapid improvement ?
