Joanne is an Associate Consultant with Focus Education. Joanne has spent the last 10 years as a Year 6 teacher and has also taught Years 4 and 5. She has worked in 3 local authorities, including, Trafford, Salford and Tameside as a class teacher, Literacy leader and member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Joanne is currently working as Deputy Headteacher and Year 6 teacher in a primary school in Tameside. Alongside class teaching, Joanne is responsible for leading Teaching and Learning and is Curriculum Coordinator. As Joanne arrived in her current school, Ofsted judged the school to be 'Requires Improvement' – mainly because attainment and progress were lower than national average. Since her appointment, the school has now received an Ofsted 'Good' judgement and significant improvements have been made with Key Stage Two data. Ofsted referenced Joanne’s work in raising attainment, 'Standards in reading, writing and mathematics at the end of Year 6 have rapidly improved since the last inspection. In 2014, standards for all three subjects were above the national average and English, grammar, punctuation and spelling was significantly above the national standard.' (Ofsted 2015)The quality of Joanne’s teaching has been consistently judged as Outstanding and she has participated in considerable coaching work around sharing good practice.
Joanne has worked across the local authority alongside the School Improvement Team and has carried out monitoring visits in other local schools. She has spoken at local conferences about improving teaching and learning.
