COGS stands for
Creating Our Greatest Self.
Character education is usually woven through a school's ethos; RSHE scheme; behaviour policy and everyday interactions with pupils but COGS aims to make that excellent work explicit to both pupils and staff, consistent across the school and easy to monitor or quality assure. When completed reliably, COGS embeds the latest research into everyday practice and only takes a few minutes a day.
It is research driven and focuses on the discussions needed for pupils to make changes within themselves because they see the benefit and not because we are telling them to. COGS dialogue to make teaching points and gives pupils opportunities to reflect on events in school with staff support.
There are six areas to explore:
- Being a positive individual
- Being able to talk
- Being a confident person
- Being responsible for myself
- Being a British citizen
- Being a successful pupil
