Course Description
This half day training is aimed at headteachers, senior leaders and anyone with a monitoring responsibility for core and non-core subjects. This session is focused on children’s books and ensuring that they provide evidence of excellence in the quality of education at your school. This will include art sketchbooks and DT outcomes.

Since Ofsted inspections have focused less on data and more on the quality of education it is clear that children’s outcomes in their books have been a major part of the judgement on the quality of education. It is therefore extremely important to ensure you have a process which you follow and that everyone at your school adheres to it. The aim of this session is to provide you with reassurance that all is well or provide you with protocols that you get everyone to adhere to.

The training will:
• Consider what a good book looks like across different subjects and provide exemplars to look at;
• Ensure that you have taken account of the ‘know more and remember more’ mantra that has been evident over the past five years;
• Consider how to put together a set of protocols that everyone can agree to;
• Consider what to look for when scrutinising books;
• Look at drawing up a hypothesis on following it through;
• Explain how to feed back to whole staff if there are any issues.
