Product Description
It is not possible to teach history without considering when events have happened. History is what happened a minute ago, yesterday and last week. The history of Britain began over 2 million years ago and beyond - a difficult concept even for some adults to understand. As a result, it is extremely important that we get the teaching of chronology right and that the children understand not only that there is an order of when things happened, but that there is also overlap, whereby different people might do the same or different things at the same or different times.

This mini-clip is ideal for staff meetings, short sessions during teaching training days or for self-study. It provides a brief introduction to Cognitive load Theory and how it relates to effective teaching. The main part of the course then focuses on six key teaching strategies that research shows are most effective in ensuring that pupils' working memories are not overloaded. Brief anecdotal examples are provided to illustrate how these strategies could be applied across the primary age range, building on existing strong practice in the classroom. Colleagues are then invited to consider how these could be applied across the curriculum and across the age range in their own setting.
This mini-clip is really useful for any school that wishes to further develop effective classroom practice and ensure teachers, whilst being aware of cognitive load theory, now have useful strategies to use in the classroom to maximise pupils learning.
