- Description
The science retrieval activities are intended to be used to support pupils' scientific knowledge. The activities are intended as 10, 15 or 20-minute activities to be taken at different times throughout the year.
The aim is to support pupils' long-term memory and to help them to 'know more and remember more'.

The activities link directly to the science programmes of study for key stages 1 and 2. The national curriculum does specify what ought to be taught each year and these are presented as the programmes of study on a year-by-year basis. Therefore, you should use the activities with the year specified.

You will notice that the retrieval activities include coverage from previous years. For example, plants work in Year 3 will include plant work in Years 1 and 2. This is repeated to help them recall key knowledge and information.

There is a suggested point system so that you can build up a profile of pupils who are meeting the expectations in science for their year group. In this way, the resource could be a very important part of an assessment tool which determines where there are gaps in pupils' knowledge as well as acknowledging whether they are at the stage of learning that they should be for their age.
