Creating a medium-term plans
Medium term plans
? Once the cycles for the long terms have been identified, then medium term plans
have been drawn up.
? Each of the medium term plans starts with a leading enquiry, expressed as a question.
? Within each unit there is then a number of learning challenges, again expressed as
questions.
? The aim is to motivate the pupils and help them gain the knowledge and skills they
need to be effective scientists, geographers or historians.
? The learning challenges for each unit will in most cases contain one that links to art or
DT. The knowledge and skills for these are identified at each stage as appropriate.
? After the unit and the learning challenges have been set out the next page goes on
to identify the key and sticky knowledge that pupils should attain.
? The key knowledge in bold are the essential ones that all pupils should have
transferred into their long-term memories and should be the focus of assessment.
? Many of these medium term plans have full short term plans, which outlines activities
which take account of metacognitive style way of working. These are available
through the Focus Learning Challenge website and can be bought in units as
required.
