This publication is included in our Unlimited Plan on The Learning Challenge Curriculum These music knowledge mats have been designed to help schools to get across what pupils should know at the end of a unit of teaching .In using both musical and non- musical starting points. Each mat can be integrated into the wider curriculum for each key stage. The "knowledge" section of the mat is exemplified in the "composers and their music" section helping pupils to place their listening in a wider context. The knowledge mats connect vocabulary with its practical application, supporting performing and composing in the classroom.
Our expectation is that school would laminate copies of these mats, say one per group of four pupils. One of the reflection on learning tasks could well be pupils redesigning the original music mat to ensure that they will have life-long knowledge of the specific unit taught. These mats link exceptionally well with future intent and helps schools to make subject-specific vocabulary a big feature of the curriculum.
