These music knowledge organisers are designed to help schools communicate to pupils what they should know at the end of a unit of learning. Each mat can be integrated into the broader curriculum for each key stage using both musical and non-musical starting points. The "knowledge" section of the organiser is exemplified in the "composers and their music" section, helping pupils place their listening in a broader context. The knowledge mats connect vocabulary with its practical application, supporting performing and composing in the classroom.
Our expectation is that schools would laminate copies of these mats, say one per group of four pupils. One of the reflections on learning tasks could well be pupils redesigning the original music mat to ensure that they will have life-long knowledge of the specific unit taught. These mats link exceptionally well with future intent and help schools make subject-specific vocabulary a big feature of the curriculum.
