Ofsted has decided to use ‘Report Cards’ as a way forward in its inspection process. The new framework, to be implemented from November 2025, has set out the criteria for the different aspects considered. It would be sensible, therefore, for schools to use the same outline to self-evaluate their performance.

Ofsted released the framework alongside its toolkit in September, and we have moved swiftly to create what we believe is a very useful publication to help schools with their self-evaluation.

The new system sees FIVE judgements linked to EIGHT categories (or areas):

The judgements are:
•    Exceptional
•    Strong Standard
•    Expected Standard
•    Needs Attention
•    Urgent Improvement

The categories are:
1.    Safeguarding
2.    Inclusion
3.    Curriculum and teaching
4.    Achievement
5.    Attendance and behaviour
6.    Personal development and well-being
7.    Early years
8.    Leadership and governance

Our publication aims to support your self-evaluation by using these judgements and categories and helping leaders recognise where they are against these specifications. We have looked at each of the categories and provided detailed descriptions for each judgement.

The document offers an initial ‘best fit’ against the five judgements for each of the eight categories, and we have provided additional support by separating teaching and curriculum.

Once you have decided on the correct judgement, you can then personalise the descriptor provided so that it takes greater account of the unique nature of your school. Our aim is to save you time and provide you with the tools to enable you to create an accurate and succinct self-evaluation of your school’s performance.
The publication will help you carry out accurate self-evaluation in line with Ofsted inspection processes at an affordable price for all schools and academies.

You can download a free template of the self evaluation grid and see an extract of the leadership governance section by selecting free template.
