It presents 16 practical ideas to ensure pupils are made to think and reason more effectively and that the teacher isn't doing the thinking for them.
Each of the sixteen ideas is supported by examples to help provide greater clarity. The examples are just that, but they should provide enough guidance for teachers to create the same method for the learning they are covering with their pupils. The aim is to help teachers 'teach less' and to increase the learning demands on pupils. The activities should put greater demands on pupils' thinking and reasoning skills.
These methods require pupils to develop their curiosity and should help them improve their questioning. Therefore, using these methods should help create 'enquiry-based classrooms'.
The principles associated with 'metacognition' form an important part of the process, and the tasks take this into account.
