Let’s Talk is a whole-school PSHCE curriculum designed to give children from EYFS to Year 6 meaningful opportunities to explore and discuss the issues that matter to them.

Rather than simply teaching children what to think, Let’s Talk encourages them to think for themselves — developing their understanding of themselves, their relationships with others and their place within the wider community.

And with the curriculum recently updated, Let’s Talk now includes coverage to support schools in meeting the statutory RSE requirements in primary school.

REAL ISSUES. MEANINGFUL CONVERSATIONS.

Across EYFS and Years 1–6, children explore carefully chosen issues through high-quality texts, realistic scenarios, dilemmas and discussion-based activities.

Topics include friendships, families, emotions, relationships, discrimination, online safety, peer pressure, resilience, identity, responsibility, prejudice, money, democracy, drugs, the environment and many more.

The three themes running throughout the curriculum encourage children to consider:

ME – understanding themselves as individuals
US – understanding relationships and being part of a group
OTHERS – considering how their actions and decisions affect other people and the wider community

A MANAGEABLE CURRICULUM FOR BUSY PRIMARY SCHOOLS

For Years 1–6, there are between 13 and 17 issues (units) per year group, giving schools a comprehensive programme of PSHCE learning across the primary phase.

For EYFS, there are eight issues for each year, structured as EYFS1 (Nursery) and EYFS2 (Reception). Schools without a nursery can simply select the units that best meet the needs of their children.

Each issue provides a clear starting point for discussion, with:

• A carefully selected text

• A realistic, child-friendly scenario

• A dilemma or question to get children thinking

• Key vocabulary

• Discussion and debate opportunities

• A range of practical activities

• Opportunities to work individually, in pairs, groups or as a whole class

There is no expectation that every lesson is dominated by written work. The emphasis is on helping children develop the confidence and language to talk about important issues, listen to different viewpoints and explain their own thinking.

SUPPORTING CHILDREN TO UNDERSTAND THEIR WORLD

Schools need to give children opportunities to talk about the things they encounter in their own lives — whether that is friendship, relationships, emotions, online experiences, difference, responsibility or issues affecting their wider community.

Let’s Talk provides the structure, resources and starting points to make those conversations easier for teachers to facilitate.

It gives children a safe and purposeful environment in which they can question, discuss, debate and reflect on real-life situations.
