This resource has been created to support staff and children during working scientifically activities. One of the main criticisms for primary science is that staff tend to over-guide their pupils and therefore activities do not support children in working like scientists.
The resource has one sheet for each enquiry and is set out to help children work more metacognitively by providing them with prompts to deepen their thinking. It also helps them to consider how the activity helps them as a learner, a scientist and a group member.

Each of the five enquiry types are included, that is:
•    Comparative and fair testing
•    Pattern seeking
•    Grouping and classifying
•    Observations over time
•    Researching, using secondary sources

The expectation is that children have access to the relevant sheet when working scientifically and hopefully guide their thinking rather than guide the activity. The main aim to get children to work more independently and not to be over-led by the adults in their classroom. It is important to recognise that scientists learn a great deal even when their investigations have not worked out as they had hoped.
The write-ups for their enquiries could be set out under the three headings: planning, doing and evaluating. The evaluating stage being the one they set out what they learnt. Diagrams could accompany each section, if relevant.
