This video training is aimed at primary school leaders, including early years leaders. It has been designed to help school leaders who may have limited experience working with early years be more confident in their monitoring role.
The training looks at both the Development Matters and the Birth to 5-year-olds’ guidance and helps leaders create a structure that will help them understand and recognise outstanding practice. At the same time, it will help leaders check whether children know more and remember more as they progress through the early years setting.
The training:
- Helps leaders clarify the links between reception and Year 1, especially in science, geography, history, art, DT and music.
- Looks at each of the three prime areas of learning and the four specific areas of learning and considers what great practice looks like. It considers a structure that identifies what progress should look like.
- Helps leaders understand the guidance ‘Development Matters’ and how this can be used to support expectations through nursery and reception.
- Provides leaders with practical tips on what to look for when monitoring the provision in early years.
- Identifies the disciplinary and substantive knowledge that young children should acquire in their education's foundation stage.
- Helps leaders to be confident about what to look for in continuous provision, indoor and outdoor and considers the importance of focused activities.
- Provides a framework for school leaders for meaningful conversations with early years practitioners.
This training aims to help you delve deeply into the teaching, learning and assessment culture in your early years setting. It will help you take stock, look at the bigger picture and make decisions about your monitoring practice in the early years.
