Helping children talk, think, question and understand the world around them.

Watch our video all about Lets' Talk

Let’s Talk is a PSHCE curriculum approach designed to help primary-aged children explore, discuss and debate relevant issues that affect their lives, relationships and the world around them.  It now includes coverage to support schools in meeting the statutory RSE requirements in primary school.

Each individual Let’s Talk issue provides teachers with a ready-to-use resource centred around an engaging question or topic, creating opportunities for children to talk, think, question, listen and reflect.

The approach encourages children to think about issues from three perspectives:

ME – understanding themselves as individuals
US – considering their relationships with friends, family and their peers
OTHERS – thinking about how issues, choices and behaviours can affect other people and the wider community

WHAT DOES EACH ISSUE INCLUDE?

Each individual issue provides a clear starting point for meaningful classroom discussion and includes:

  • A carefully selected, age-appropriate text

  • A realistic scenario linked to the issue

  • A dilemma or key question to encourage deeper thinking

  • Key vocabulary

  • Structured opportunities for discussion and debate

  • Practical activities

  • Opportunities for children to work individually, in pairs, in groups and as a whole class

There is no expectation that learning should be dominated by written work. Instead, the emphasis is on developing children's confidence to express their ideas, listen to different viewpoints, explain their thinking and engage in thoughtful discussion.

PSHCE THROUGH TALK, THINKING AND REAL-LIFE CONTEXTS

The Let’s Talk approach helps teachers create a safe and purposeful environment in which children can explore subjects that may affect them now or in the future.

Topics across the wider Let’s Talk collection include friendships, families, emotions, relationships, online safety, discrimination, peer pressure, resilience, identity, responsibility, prejudice, money, democracy, drugs and the environment.

Whether you are looking to address a particular issue with your class, supplement your existing PSHCE provision or try the Let’s Talk approach before investing in the complete curriculum, individual issues provide a flexible and accessible way to bring meaningful PSHCE discussion into the classroom.
